The Catawbans Vol. III Book Design

At over 500 pages of archival photographs and text is The Catawbans, Volume III, Boomers & Bypasses, a comprehensive history of the county and surrounding areas written by Gary Freeze, author of several books, two of which were the first two volumes The Catawbans Vol I,  Crafters of a North Carolina County and The Catawbans Vol II Pioneers in Progress.

This book design project was quite an undertaking – at over 500 pages of layout covering the years from 1945 to 1992, we created a visual language to help match the feel of the main story and history told for each decade and section featured, while treating the historical documents scanned (some in challenging condition, given the age) in a fitting manner to the time period and topic.
